Today was a day spent hiking in the concrete jungle known as Seattle! We parked near Pike Place Market and headed first to the Waterfront Area. We rode Seattle's Great Wheel. There were great views all around, but disappointingly, there was too much cloudcover to be able to see the mountains to the west in Olympic National Park.
A seagull hitched a ride on the ferris wheel!
From there, we headed down to the iconic Iver's Fish Bar on Pier 54 for lunch (thanks to my cousin Terri for this tip and several others!). We had some awesome clam chowder, alaskan cod, and calamari. We saved most of our french fries for the sea gulls (which they encourage you to feed).
Marina was terrified!!
From there, we took a short peek at Pike Place Market as we walked through to make our way up to catch the monorail at Westlake Center. For those of you who don't know, this is one of the longest running farmer's markets in the US (started in 1907).
We stopped at Westlake Park to watch a tap dancing troupe perform.
The monorail took us over to Seattle Center.
The kids had a blast playing on the playground at Seattle Center.
International Fountain
The fountain was choreographed to music. Pretty cool.
Monorail selfie!!
We hopped back on the monorail back and headed down to Pike Place Market to check it out better and grab some things to take home.
We checked out Beecher's Homemade Cheese to try out their mac'n'cheese and watch them making cheese.
Gavin says CHEESE!!!!!
We got some fruit, chocolate covered cherries, and some freshly made doughnuts. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the end of the fish market before they started closing up early (it's Sunday). We didn't get to see them throwing fish or even be able to buy any . Bummer.
We did, though, get to see an awesome view of Mt. Rainier over Washington Lake on our way back to the campground.
Here's a pic of our campsite. Since the weekend is over, the campground has cleared out and we pretty much have our section to ourselves. We are in the foothills of the Cascade mountain range about a half hour east of downtown Seattle.
