Glacier Day 3
- St. Mary's Visitor Center & St. Mary's Lake
We started with schoolwork in the morning today since the Logan Pass parking lot was full yesterday and hard to get into until the afternoon hours. When we got there, it was still full but we were able to find someone pulling out of a spot pretty quickly. We headed out on the Hidden Lake Trail. The trail was only open to the overlook and not down to the lake because of bear activity (not the only trail we have missed out on because of this!).
The wildflowers were beautiful and a stark contrast to the rocky mountains.
There were lots of mountain goats (and even a couple of mama's with babies).
Hidden Lake Overlook
The trail from the overlook down to the lake was closed due to bear activity, so back we go!
Hike length was around 3 miles.
As you may have been able to tell from the progression of pictures, the clouds rolled in. On our way to our next hike (St. Mary's & Virginia Falls), it began to rain. We tried to wait it out, but the clouds weren't moving away any time soon, so we decided to head back to the camper. On the way back, we spotted a traffic jam on the road. Everyone (including a ranger) was stopped to look at a grizzly bear just up the hill. He began to go away from the road, but came back down so the ranger scared it off with a flare gun. Best way to see a grizzly - from the saftey of your car!
