We left Cincinnati on Saturday, August 13th at 7am EST. We made only 2 stops before rolling into Mitchell, SD 14.25 hours later at 8:15pm CST. Our kids are champion travelers!! We were able to pull into the Cabela's RV lot for the night. We walked to Culver's for dinner and then across the street to Walmart to get Gavin some allergy meds. It was a quiet night despite being in a parking lot! Cabela's is definitely the place for a free one night stop-over. Much better than being at a rest stop or 24hr Walmart parking lot. We got on the road the next morning around 9am CST. It was a 3 hour drive to our first stop: Badlands National Park.

The kids had a great time climbing around at the trailhead.

We headed out on Notch Trail for a hike. It was a hot one - zero shade.

Only trail I have ever been on where we had to climb a log ladder to the top.

Overlook view of the grasslands at the end.

Back down the ladder...

We fueled up one more time before heading on to our first campground near Mt. Rushmore. About 2 hours later we arrived at Rafter J Bar Ranch. We made spaghetti for dinner and hung out at the playground for a while. We ended the evening with a game of nerf football that turned into nerf dodgeball. As we were turning in for the night, the sound of thunder rolled in.
