We had quite an interesting night last night! We were rudely awakened at about 5:30 in the morning when someone was making all kinds of noise at the dumpster just up from our campsite. As I opened the blinds in the bedroom, I thought, "There is no way that is a person making that much noise." Sure enough, not but 40 feet from the backside of our trailer was an enormous black bear eating out of the garbage. He dragged the entire dumpster out of the privacy fenced area and into the middle of the street. He was still frustrated at how difficult it was to get to the food, so he stood up on his hind legs on the side of the dumpster. His head and shoulders were easily 3-4 foot taller than the dumpster. With one good shake, he pulled the dumpster over and garbage went everywhere. We looked on from the window as he binged on leftovers for about a half an hour before we went back to bed (he was still eating). I wish I could have gotten a picture, but it was so dark. The only reason we could barely see him was because of the street light. Christian wanted to go shine the lights on him from the car, but I told him he was out of his mind if he thought he was getting out of the camper! In the morning, Marina made a discovery - bear poop. She even went to examine it with her binoculars...lol.
In the early afternoon, we made our way to Heavenly Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe, home to the tallest mountain on Lake Tahoe (10,067ft). The huge resort straddles the California/Nevada state line. The Heavenly Village at the base of the mountain has a very neat range of shopping opportunities. We took the resort's gondola to the Lake Tahoe overlook where the views were absolutely amazing. It is crazy how blue the water is! We then continued to the top of the gondola at 9,200 ft. There, we enjoyed the hiking trails and a delicious restaurant.
After going to Heavenly, we came back to the campground and rested up so that we could spend the evening at the beach. The beach is just across the street. The water was coooold. We got to see a sea plane land and take off just outside the marina. Christian and Marina made a sandcastle and we enjoyed the beautiful sunset while perched on top of a giant boulder.
