The cool weather was conducive to a great night sleep. We tried to sleep in this morning, but we still got up a little before 8am MT. After enjoying the view out of the big window in the bedroom, we finally dragged ourselves out of bed. Marina found some kids a few campsites up to play with. The event pavilion is near our site and they had free crafts at noon, so Marina had fun making a necklace and drawing a picture. There aren't too many people in the campground. We have no one on either side of us, nor in the tent loop behind us. The view is absolutely amazing and the weather is perfect.
We do have free WiFi at this campground, but we do not have a cell signal, even with the booster. We are right in the middle of the mountains! There is a heated pool and putt-putt golf that we may make use of! They are playing Babe: A Pig in the City tonight on the big outdoor TV at the pavilion. A look at our campsite...
Our adventure today was to the Estes Park Aerial Tramway that takes you up to the summit of Prospect Mountain at 8900ft. where there are several trailheads. There are awesome views of Estes Park below and the mountains whose peaks make up the continental divide. We did a little hiking and bouldering. Marina loved climbing around on the rocks. Her legs were exhausted by the time we were done, but she just kept wanting to go, go, go!
We also saw the Stanley Hotel. It is one of the first buildings in Estes Park and is the place where Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining. Its a beautiful building and is supposedly one of the most haunted places in America. We would have gone on a ghost tour, but no kids under 5...bummer.
We had to stop on the way back to the campground to get Tug a bed to have for outside the camper. His old bones must be too sensitive for laying on the hard ground. He would just stand there and whine at you. Spoiled...we know. We finished the evening by grilling out mini hamburgers, corn on the cob, and hot sausages - yum!
